Amid rising tensions in West Asia, former US President Donald Trump announced on Friday that American forces had completely “destroyed” military installations on Kharg Island in Iran. In a message posted on social media, Trump claimed that the targeted military sites on the island had been fully eliminated. He also warned that Iran’s oil infrastructure could be the next potential target. Kharg Island, located in the Persian Gulf, is a key hub for Iran’s oil exports. A significant portion of the country’s crude oil shipments is routed through this island, making it a critical component of Iran’s economy. The announcement came as Trump was preparing to travel to Florida. Although he responded to questions from reporters before boarding Air Force One, he did not mention the military operation during that interaction. Analysts suggest that the reported strike could further escalate tensions in the region, given Kharg Island’s strategic importance to Iran’s economy. Meanwhile, a missile attack has reportedly occurred inside the compound of the United States Embassy Baghdad in Baghdad, the capital of Iraq. According to Iraqi security officials, the attack took place early Saturday morning and targeted a helipad located within the embassy complex. Shortly after the incident, large plumes of smoke were seen rising from the building. The embassy complex is among the largest American diplomatic facilities in the world and has previously been targeted by rocket and drone attacks allegedly carried out by Iran-backed militia groups. However, the US Embassy has not yet issued an official statement regarding the latest incident. Earlier on Friday, the embassy had issued a “Level 4” security alert for Iraq, warning that Iran and allied groups could target American interests and citizens in the region. The incident comes at a time when tensions among the United States, Israel and Iran are intensifying, raising global concerns over energy security and oil supply. Separately, the government of India has announced relief measures for foreign nationals stranded in the country due to the conflict and disruptions to international air routes. According to the Indian embassy in Dubai, foreign citizens whose visas are about to expire will be granted a free 30-day visa extension. Officials also clarified that no penalties will be imposed for overstays occurring after February 28 due to the conflict. Once air routes reopen, affected individuals will be issued exit permits without any additional fees.
