Punjab Assembly Budget Session to Begin March 6, Budget on March 8

The schedule for the upcoming budget session of the Punjab Legislative Assembly has been officially announced. The state cabinet has approved the convening of the 12th session (Budget Session) of the 16th Assembly from March 6 to March 16, 2026. According to the schedule, the session will commence on March 6 with the Governor’s address. March 7 has been declared a holiday, while the state Finance Minister will present the budget for the financial year 2026–27 on March 8. Notably, this will be the first time that the Punjab budget will be presented on a Sunday. It is being speculated that the timing may be linked to a possible announcement by the Punjab government regarding a grant of ₹1,000 for women. As per information received from the Assembly, a discussion on the Governor’s address and the motion of thanks will take place on March 9. The budget will be debated over two days, March 10 and 11, during which MLAs from all political parties will be allotted speaking time based on their party strength. Non-official business will be conducted on March 12. There will be a break in the session from March 13 to March 15. During this period, an “Invest Punjab” program will be held in Mohali, where investors from India and abroad are expected to explore investment opportunities in the state. The Assembly session will conclude on March 16 and will be adjourned sine die.
