Accidental Firing or Foul Play? Probe Intensifies in Talwara PNB Incident

Panic gripped a branch of Punjab National Bank located in BBMB Colony, Sector-2, Talwara, after a gunshot was accidentally fired from a double-barrel gun carried by a security guard on duty. The incident left the guard, Gurmel Singh (48), son of Mohinder Singh and a resident of Dasuya, critically injured. The sudden firing created an atmosphere of fear among customers and staff present inside the bank at the time. Immediately after the incident, the injured guard was rushed to the local BBMB Hospital for treatment. Due to his critical condition, doctors provided initial medical aid and later referred him to a better-equipped hospital in Jalandhar for advanced treatment. Upon receiving information, Talwara police reached the spot and took possession of the security guard’s weapon. Considering the seriousness of the incident, Balwinder Joda stated that the police are conducting a thorough investigation from all possible angles to determine the exact cause of the firing. Police personnel have been deployed outside the bank, and CCTV footage from the premises is being examined. Authorities are also trying to ascertain whether the gunshot was the result of an accidental discharge while cleaning the weapon or due to any other reason.
