Rajasthan Royals (RR) captain Riyan Parag has landed in controversy during IPL 2026 after he was allegedly seen using an e-cigarette in the dressing room during a match against Punjab Kings. The incident was captured on live broadcast, and the clip has since gone viral on social media. The footage reportedly dates back to the 16th over of Rajasthan’s innings. In the video, Parag is seen in the dressing room, allegedly vaping in the presence of teammates Dhruv Jurel and Yashasvi Jaiswal. The visuals have sparked widespread discussion and criticism. The incident is being viewed as serious, especially in light of India’s strict laws regarding e-cigarettes. Under the Prohibition of Electronic Cigarettes Act (PECA), 2019, the production, sale, import, and advertisement of e-cigarettes are banned in the country. Violations of the law can attract penalties, including fines and imprisonment. As a professional athlete and team captain, Parag’s alleged public use of a vape device is being seen as a violation not only of the law but also of the spirit of the sport. Concerns have also been raised about the health risks associated with vaping, as well as its lack of clearly defined safety standards. BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia has been approached for a response on the matter, and it is expected that the board will take the issue seriously. The BCCI may seek an explanation from both the player and the franchise regarding the incident. This is the second time in the ongoing IPL season that Rajasthan Royals have come under scrutiny for a protocol breach. Earlier, team manager Romi Bhinder was found using a mobile phone in the dugout, which violated Player Match Operation Area (PMOA) regulations. Following an inquiry, the BCCI had imposed a fine and issued a warning in that case. With the emergence of the latest video involving the team captain, Rajasthan Royals may face further scrutiny and possible disciplinary action.
