26 Mar, 2026 03:44 PM

The Indian Army has rejected an entire consignment of milk powder supplied by Milkfed, a cooperative dairy body known for maintaining a strong reputation for quality in the dairy market. The development has prompted the formation of a fact-finding committee to investigate the reasons behind the rejection. According to official communication, the Officer Commanding of the Army Service Corps in Jammu informed the District Cooperative Milk Producers Union, Ludhiana, about the rejection of the supplied stock. The Army stated that approximately 125 metric tonnes of milk powder dispatched from the Ludhiana plant had been rejected. Sources within Milkfed revealed that two batches of milk powder—58.338 metric tonnes and 66.654 metric tonnes—were rejected on quality grounds. The Army had conducted testing of the milk powder samples before taking the decision. Milkfed supplies milk and dairy products to the Indian Army from its various plants across Punjab. The Ludhiana plant is the primary supplier of milk powder, while the Bathinda plant supplies milk, curd, and butter to military units. The Amritsar plant provides products such as ghee. The Officer Commanding has also sent a written report regarding the rejected consignment to the procurement and food inspection organisation under the Ministry of Defence. Milkfed Managing Director Rahul Gupta stated that the organisation is among the reputed institutions in the country and places high importance on product quality. He added that a fact-finding committee is being constituted to determine the reasons behind the Army’s rejection of the milk powder.
