Punjab, Delhi and Chandigarh Included in ECI’s Third Phase of Voter List Revision

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has announced the third phase of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls across 16 states and three Union Territories, including Punjab, Delhi and Chandigarh. However, the Union Territories of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, along with Himachal Pradesh, have not been included in the third phase of the exercise. According to an official statement, the schedule for SIR in these three regions will be announced later, keeping in view the weather conditions in mountainous and snowfall-prone areas. The Election Commission stated that the final electoral rolls in Punjab will be published on October 1, while Chandigarh will release its final voter lists on September 22. In Delhi, the final electoral rolls are scheduled to be published on October 7. As per the Commission’s schedule, the final voter lists for Odisha, Mizoram, Sikkim and Manipur will be published on September 6. The final electoral rolls for Daman and Diu and Dadra and Nagar Haveli will be released on September 11, while Uttarakhand’s final voter lists will be published on September 15. Similarly, Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Haryana and Chandigarh will publish their final electoral rolls on September 22. Punjab and Telangana will release their final voter lists on October 1. Karnataka, Meghalaya, Maharashtra, Jharkhand and Delhi will publish theirs on October 7. Meanwhile, Nagaland and Tripura will release their final electoral rolls on November 22 and November 23 respectively. The Election Commission further informed that during the third phase of the SIR exercise, more than 3.94 lakh Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will conduct door-to-door verification to cover nearly 36.73 crore voters. They will be assisted by around 3.42 lakh Booth Level Agents (BLAs) appointed by various political parties.
