Vrindavan Boat Tragedy: PM Narendra Modi Announces Financial Aid for Victims’ Families

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced financial assistance for the families of those who lost their lives in the tragic boat accident in Vrindavan, Uttar Pradesh. According to the announcement, an ex-gratia amount of ₹2 lakh will be provided to the families of each deceased victim, while those injured in the incident will receive ₹50,000 each. The incident took place in Mathura’s Vrindavan area, where a boat carrying 37 devotees capsized at Kesi Ghat on Friday around 3 PM. So far, 10 people have been confirmed dead, while five individuals, including a young woman, are still reported missing. Rescue operations have been ongoing for more than 20 hours, with teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and the Indian Army actively engaged at the site. The Army successfully retrieved the capsized boat late on Friday night. The accident occurred approximately 2 kilometers from the famous Banke Bihari Temple. In a particularly tragic development, seven members of a single family were among those who lost their lives. The victims included close relatives such as a mother and son, an uncle and aunt, and an aunt and her husband, highlighting the devastating impact of the accident on one family. Meanwhile, Ludhiana Deputy Commissioner Himanshu Jain has urged residents not to spread rumors or panic regarding the incident. He stated that the Ludhiana district administration, along with the Punjab government, is in constant contact with authorities in Vrindavan to monitor the situation and provide necessary assistance. To support affected individuals and families, dedicated 24×7 helplines have been set up at Jagraon and the Ludhiana district headquarters.
