PTI Long March Begins From Khyber Pakhtunkhwa; Government Tightens Security Around Islamabad
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), the party of former Prime Minister Imran Khan, has started a long march from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa towards Islamabad after talks with the Pakistan government ended without an agreement.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi, while launching the PTI march, announced at Gandi Chowk in Lakki Marwat that the party would reveal its next strategy when the convoy reaches Khairabad on October 8.
The march has witnessed strong enthusiasm among PTI supporters. The party had initially announced the Islamabad march for September 27, but later postponed it until October 4. The decision to begin the protest came after a meeting between government negotiators and PTI leaders ended without any agreement.
PTI’s Key Demands
The party’s main demands include an immediate meeting with Imran Khan, who is currently in jail, his transfer to a hospital so that private doctors can examine and treat him, and the release of arrested PTI workers and leaders.
The government had set a condition that PTI should first call off its protests. The party rejected the condition, leading to the start of the long march.
Government Warns PTI Leadership
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has warned that if any loss of life occurs during the march, the entire responsibility will lie with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi.
Meanwhile, the government has tightened security on routes leading towards the capital as PTI supporters continue their march towards Islamabad.
