Suspected Gas Cylinder Blast Rocks Abohar Neighborhood, Forensic Probe Underway

22 Apr, 2026 08:19 AM

Panic gripped the area near Patel Park in Abohar after a powerful explosion occurred in a house late last night. The intensity of the blast was such that one wall of the house collapsed, while doors of nearby shops were blown off. According to reports, three people, including a woman, sustained serious injuries in the incident. All the injured were immediately shifted to the Civil Hospital for treatment, where they are currently undergoing medical care. Soon after receiving information about the incident, Senior Superintendent of Police Gurmeet Singh, along with a team from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL), reached the spot and initiated an investigation. Preliminary findings suggest that the explosion may have been caused by a gas cylinder blast. However, local residents believe that the presence of some flammable material inside the house could have contributed to the severity of the explosion. The exact cause will be determined after a detailed investigation. The explosion reportedly took place at the residence of local resident Deepu Chugh. A nearby tandoor operator and a customer who had come to collect bread were also caught in the impact of the blast. Equipment inside the tandoor shop, including a refrigerator and other items, suffered significant damage. Fire brigade teams reached the location promptly and managed to bring the fire under control. In a courageous effort, local residents removed several gas cylinders from inside the house amid the flames, preventing a potentially larger disaster. Authorities noted that if those cylinders had caught fire, the damage could have been far more severe. Former MLA Arun Narang visited the hospital to inquire about the condition of the injured. Given the seriousness of their condition, they may be referred to a higher medical facility for advanced treatment.
