Mumbai Indians suffered their third consecutive defeat in the ongoing IPL 2026 season after losing to Royal Challengers Bengaluru by 18 runs in a high-scoring encounter on Sunday at the Wankhede Stadium. Chasing a challenging target of 240 runs on their home ground, Mumbai Indians managed to score 222 runs in their allotted 20 overs. Despite a strong start, the team fell short in the final stages of the chase. Openers Rohit Sharma and Ryan Rickelton provided Mumbai with a solid foundation, putting together an unbeaten 57-run partnership in just 32 balls. However, momentum shifted after Rohit Sharma retired hurt. Suryakumar Yadav contributed 33 runs, while Tilak Varma added 1 and Hardik Pandya scored 40 runs. In the closing stages, Sherfane Rutherford played a remarkable unbeaten innings of 71 runs off 31 balls, smashing nine sixes. Despite his efforts, Mumbai Indians could not reach the target. Suyash Sharma made a crucial impact with the ball, taking two wickets in a single over. Earlier, after losing the toss and being put in to bat, Royal Challengers Bengaluru posted a formidable total of 240 runs. The team’s top order delivered an impressive performance, with Phil Salt scoring 78 runs, Virat Kohli contributing 50, and Rajat Patidar adding 53 runs. Following the strong top-order display, Tim David provided a quick finish, scoring 34 runs off just 16 balls to take Bengaluru to a commanding total. With this result, Mumbai Indians continue their losing streak in the tournament, while Royal Challengers Bengaluru strengthen their position with a convincing victory.
