Punjab Police have busted three gangs allegedly involved in drug trafficking and the supply of illegal weapons in Amritsar, leading to the arrest of five suspects and the recovery of 3.267 kg of heroin, 13 pistols and 22 live cartridges.
Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav shared details of the operation on social media platform X on Wednesday. He said the action was carried out by the Amritsar Commissionerate Police.
According to the DGP, preliminary investigation has indicated that the arrested suspects were involved in supplying illegal firearms and narcotics. Separate First Information Reports (FIRs) have been registered at D-Division and Chheharta police stations in Amritsar in connection with the cases.
Probe into wider network
Following the arrests, police have launched a detailed investigation to trace the complete network linked to the alleged drug and arms supply operations.
Investigators are examining the backward and forward links of the arrested suspects to determine the source of the narcotics and weapons and identify others involved in the supply chain.
The police are also working to establish whether the suspects were in contact with handlers based abroad. Efforts are underway to identify other individuals connected with the network, while further investigation in the cases remains in progress.
DGP Gaurav Yadav said the Punjab Police was continuing its efforts to strengthen security in the state, combat drug trafficking and dismantle networks involved in the illegal supply of narcotics and weapons.
