Three-time champions Kolkata Knight Riders have suffered a major setback ahead of the Indian Premier League 2026, as Indian fast bowler Akash Deep has been ruled out of the entire season due to a back injury. A franchise official confirmed the development on Saturday, stating that the injury will keep the pacer out for the duration of the tournament. His absence is expected to significantly impact the team’s bowling strength. Akash Deep is currently undergoing rehabilitation at the Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru. According to reports, recovery from such an injury typically requires a period of six to twelve weeks, ruling him out of participation in IPL 2026. The situation has further worsened for KKR, as another Indian fast bowler, Harshit Rana, is already sidelined following surgery. The back-to-back injuries to key pace bowlers have created additional challenges for the franchise ahead of the season.
