Police Bust Unique Smuggling Racket Using Camels to Evade Checkpoints
In an unusual twist to illegal smuggling methods, authorities in South Delhi have uncovered a racket that used camels—often referred to as the “ship of the desert”—to transport illicit liquor. Police officials confirmed on Monday that the accused adopted this unconventional method to evade checkpoints and road surveillance. The operation was carried out by the Special Staff of the South district during the intervening night of March 29 and 30. The कार्रवाई followed specific intelligence inputs about illegal liquor being transported into Delhi from Faridabad through forested routes near Sangam Vihar. Acting swiftly, the police team laid a trap in the dense forest area. According to officials, the आरोपी, identified as 48-year-old Vinod Bhadana, a resident of Anandpur village in Faridabad, was apprehended while transporting a consignment of liquor using two camels. During the operation, the police recovered a total of 39 cartons of illicit liquor from his possession, amounting to 1,938 quarter bottles. Officials stated that the accused deliberately chose this method to avoid strict vehicle checking on major routes connecting Delhi and Faridabad. By using camels and navigating through forest paths, the आरोपी managed to bypass police barricades and surveillance systems. The camels used in the smuggling operation were rescued and handed over to the concerned authorities, while the आरोपी has been taken into custody.
