New Zealand have secured a place in the final of the T20 World Cup 2026 for the second time after defeating South Africa by nine wickets in the first semi-final on Wednesday. The match was played at the historic Eden Gardens Stadium in Kolkata. Notably, this is the second time New Zealand have reached the final of the T20 World Cup, with their first appearance coming in 2021. In the semi-final clash, New Zealand captain Mitchell Santner won the toss and chose to bowl first. Batting first, South Africa scored 169 runs for the loss of eight wickets in their allotted 20 overs, setting a target of 170 runs for New Zealand. In response, New Zealand chased down the target in a commanding manner, reaching 170 runs for the loss of just one wicket in 12.5 overs. The standout performance came from Finn Allen, who played a remarkable unbeaten innings of 100 runs off just 33 balls. His explosive knock not only guided New Zealand to victory but also set a new record for the fastest century in the history of the T20 World Cup. Allen’s powerful batting ensured a comfortable win for New Zealand, sealing their place in the tournament’s final with an impressive performance.
