Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann Reviews Anti-Drug Campaign, Calls for Breaking Drug Supply Chains

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Friday held a key meeting with senior police and civil administration officials at the Maharaja Ranjit Singh Punjab Police Academy to review the state’s anti-drug campaign and discuss measures to strengthen law enforcement.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Inspectors General (DIGs) from various police ranges, police commissioners, senior police officers and Cabinet ministers. Punjab Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav was present, along with Cabinet ministers Aman Arora, Harpal Singh Cheema and Dr Balbir Singh, among others.

Discussions focused on strengthening the state government’s ‘Yudh Nashian Virudh’ campaign, dismantling drug supply networks and improving the effectiveness of the police administration.

Mann said the fight against drugs should not be limited to law enforcement agencies but must become a people’s movement. He said the Punjab government was committed to removing the stigma associated with drugs and called on every section of society to contribute to the campaign.

The Chief Minister stressed the need to treat people struggling with drug addiction as patients and ensure their treatment and rehabilitation. At the same time, he called for strict action against those involved in drug trafficking and sales, emphasising that breaking the supply chain was essential to tackling the problem.

Mann appreciated the work being done by the Punjab Police and urged officers to intensify their efforts. Referring to attempts to prevent cross-border drug smuggling, he said the police and security agencies must work together. The meeting also discussed the use of anti-drone systems to prevent the smuggling of drugs.

Addressing police officers, Mann urged them to discharge their duties with honesty and a strong sense of responsibility. He said their conduct and performance should earn public appreciation and strengthen people’s trust in the police.

The Chief Minister also announced that 117 new vehicles would be provided to Punjab Police Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs). He said strengthening the police force’s operational capacity was important for taking effective action against drug-related offences and other crimes.

Referring to Punjab’s history, Mann described the state as a land of brave people, generals and warriors. He said governments may change, but protecting Punjab was a shared responsibility. Citing the example of Maharaja Ranjit Singh’s rule, he called on people to work together to put the state back on the path of progress and prosperity.

Commenting on the incident in Mansa, the Chief Minister condemned it as deeply unfortunate. He assured that strict action would be taken against anyone found to have been involved in a conspiracy behind the incident and said those responsible would not be spared.
