Health Advisory Issued in Quebec Following New Measles Case Detected at Montreal Airport and Hospital

Health authorities in Quebec have issued a public health warning following the confirmation of a new measles case involving a child who traveled through key public locations in Montreal while contagious. According to the health department, the infected child arrived at Montreal-Trudeau International Airport on Friday and subsequently visited the emergency department of Sainte-Justine University Hospital on Saturday. Public health officials emphasized that the child was capable of transmitting the virus during both visits. In light of potential exposure, health officials are urging individuals who were present in the international arrivals area, customs, or baggage claim sections of the airport to verify their vaccination status immediately. Furthermore, those who may have been exposed are advised to monitor themselves for potential symptoms until the end of October. Health officials noted that symptoms of measles typically include fever, cough, a runny nose, and red or inflamed eyes. The incubation period for the virus ranges from 5 to 21 days following exposure before symptoms manifest. The health department has advised anyone experiencing symptoms to call the provincial health helpline at 811 before visiting a medical facility or hospital to prevent further spread of the virus.
