Ex-ED Officer Niranjan Singh Backs Anti-Drug Campaign After Joining Akali Dal (Waris Punjab De)

Chandigarh: Former Enforcement Directorate (ED) Deputy Director Niranjan Singh and former Punjab Police DSP Balwinder Singh Sekhon on Tuesday joined Akali Dal (Waris Punjab De) during a function held at the Chandigarh Press Club.
The two leaders were formally inducted into the party by senior Akali Dal (Waris Punjab De) leader Tarsem Singh, MLA Manpreet Singh Iyali, and Member of Parliament Sarabjeet Singh Khalsa, who welcomed them into the organization by presenting them with traditional siropas.Speaking on the occasion, Niranjan Singh expressed concern over the prevailing situation in Punjab, citing issues related to law and order, corruption, and drug abuse. He alleged that the drug mafia in the state continues to operate under the protection of police personnel and political leaders and said there is a need to raise a strong voice against the problem.
He further stated that many political leaders fail to fulfil their responsibilities after coming to power. According to him, politicians approach the public as servants during elections but begin acting as masters after securing victory. He said such an attitude should not be tolerated.
Referring to his professional career, Niranjan Singh said he had fought a long battle against drugs during his tenure in public service. He added that Akali Dal (Waris Punjab De) has consistently raised its voice against narcotics, which influenced his decision to join the organization and work towards freeing Punjab from the menace of drug abuse.
MLA Manpreet Singh Iyali said the organization has remained committed to the cause of a drug-free Punjab since its inception and will continue the struggle until the issue is completely eradicated from the state. He alleged that successive governments felt threatened by the anti-drug campaign launched by Amritpal Singh, leading to the imposition of the National Security Act (NSA) and his imprisonment. Iyali further claimed that despite the removal of the NSA, Amritpal Singh has not been allowed to come out of jail.
Senior party leader Tarsem Singh also targeted the Aam Aadmi Party government, stating that it had promised to eliminate drugs and corruption in Punjab before coming to power. However, he alleged that both issues have intensified. He claimed that if his party comes to power, drug traffickers will be identified and strict legal action will be taken against them.
The induction of two former law enforcement officials is being seen as a significant addition to Akali Dal (Waris Punjab De) as the party continues to focus on issues related to drug abuse, corruption, and governance in Punjab.
