The Baloch Liberation Army (BLA), an armed separatist group designated as a terrorist organization by Pakistan and several international bodies, has claimed responsibility for two attacks on Pakistani military convoys in Balochistan’s Ziarat and Surab districts. According to local media reports, the group alleged that 25 soldiers were killed and several others injured in the operations. In a statement, BLA spokesperson Jeeyand Baloch said fighters targeted four military vehicles at Ziarat Cross, destroying two, including a truck, and killing 18 personnel. He further claimed that five injured soldiers fled the scene and that weapons were seized. The group’s “Fateh Squad” was reportedly involved in the assault. BLA’s media outlet “Hakkal” also released a 71-second video purportedly showing the aftermath of the Ziarat attack, with armed fighters standing near burning military vehicles and carrying away weapons. In a separate incident in Surab’s Hajika area, the BLA’s Special Tactical Operations Squad (STOS) allegedly detonated an explosives-laden vehicle remotely, destroying a military truck and killing seven soldiers. These attacks come amid a surge in violence across Balochistan, where armed groups have increasingly targeted Pakistani security forces and infrastructure. Last month, the BLA claimed responsibility for 36 operations in different parts of the province, stating that 33 soldiers were killed and many others wounded. The group has reiterated its opposition to what it calls “exploitation projects” and military operations in the region, vowing to continue its campaign until its goal of “national liberation” is achieved. It has also warned local contractors, drivers, and traders against supplying goods or logistical support to Pakistani forces, threatening consequences for non-compliance. The latest incidents underscore the ongoing instability in Balochistan, where repeated clashes between armed groups and state forces have led to significant casualties and disruption of economic activity.
