Major Political Development: Leander Paes Aligns with BJP Before West Bengal Polls

In a significant political development ahead of the West Bengal Assembly elections, former tennis star Leander Paes joined the Bharatiya Janata Party on Tuesday. Paes formally joined the party in the presence of Union Minister Kiren Rijiju and BJP leader Sukanta Majumdar. The move is being viewed as an important development in the run-up to the upcoming West Bengal Assembly elections. It is noteworthy that Paes had recently visited West Bengal, where he met BJP state president Nitin Nabin. BJP leader Soumik Bhattacharya was also present during the meeting. Following his recent interaction with the party leadership in Kolkata, speculation had been growing about his possible entry into politics. After joining the party, Paes said that his mother is Bengali and was born in West Bengal. He noted that during her time, there was a lack of proper sports infrastructure, and even today, there is scope for improvement in states like West Bengal and Tamil Nadu. He emphasized the need to empower and inspire children through better sports facilities.
