Punjab Government Sets Up 24x7 Helpline for Safe Return of Punjabis Stranded in Middle East

The Punjab government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, has taken urgent measures to ensure the safe return of Punjabis stranded in the Middle East amid ongoing crisis situations. Two senior government officials have been appointed to coordinate and monitor the entire process effectively. Following the directives of Chief Minister Mann, a 24x7 helpline has already been established to provide round-the-clock assistance. Additional Director General of Police R.K. Jaiswal has been appointed as the overall in-charge of the helpline, while Vimal Setia, Secretary of the Home Department, has been designated as the nodal officer responsible for coordination and supervision. The nodal officer will maintain continuous contact with the Ministry of External Affairs of India. The nodal officer’s responsibilities include monitoring the safe evacuation of Punjabis stuck in the Middle East and other countries, overseeing the measures being taken by the Indian government, and ensuring prompt action on all calls received on the helpline. Any matters requiring escalation to the Ministry of External Affairs or other authorities will be prioritized and addressed without delay. Chief Minister Mann stated, “This initiative has been taken in light of the critical situation faced by Punjabis living in the Middle East and other regions. The sole purpose is to provide necessary support and assistance to them and their families during this unforeseen crisis. The Punjab government stands firmly with our community abroad and is fully committed to offering every possible help and support.
