Australia to Send Driverless ‘Bladewheel’ Vehicle to Ukraine After A$1.9 Billion Support
Australia’s involvement in supporting Ukraine in the Russia-Ukraine war continues to expand, with the Australian government saying its total assistance to Ukraine has now reached nearly A$1.9 billion.
More than A$1.6 billion of the overall assistance has been provided in military support, according to the Australian government. The latest figures underline Canberra’s continued role in supporting Ukraine amid the ongoing conflict.
In September, Australia announced an additional A$60 million assistance package for Ukraine. The package included military equipment worth A$45 million.
Australia has already supplied Ukraine with 120 Bushmaster protected mobility vehicles, 56 M113 armoured personnel carriers, 28 medium trucks and 49 M1A1 Abrams tanks.
The Abrams tanks alone are estimated to be worth around A$245 million.
Australia is now preparing to send a modern ‘Bladewheel’ vehicle to Ukraine. The vehicle is driverless and is designed to transport supplies to designated locations without requiring a driver.
The vehicle has a carrying capacity of around 10 tonnes of equipment or a 20-foot container, according to the information provided.
Australia’s support for Ukraine has also come against the backdrop of casualties involving some former Australian military personnel who travelled to Ukraine and fought alongside Ukrainian forces as volunteers. Some former Australian soldiers have been killed during the war.
