Unidentified Men Open Fire at Kartarpur Hospital, Police Launch Investigation
Panic spread in Kartarpur and nearby areas after unidentified assailants opened fire at the main entrance of a local hospital late Tuesday night. The incident comes days after the hospital management allegedly received an extortion call from a foreign number demanding Rs 5 crore. According to reports, the manager of Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital in Kartarpur had earlier informed the local police about the threatening call. Allegations have also surfaced that despite being informed, the police did not take the required action in time. Hospital manager Harman Singh Samra stated that two unidentified men arrived on a motorcycle and entered the hospital parking area before opening fire. He said the attacker was carrying weapons in both hands while firing at the hospital premises. Samra further revealed that during the firing, the magazine of the pistol fell to the ground, after which the assailant returned to pick it up before fleeing the spot. He also stated that a few days earlier, he had received a call from a foreign number in which the caller identified himself as Lucky Patial and demanded an extortion amount of Rs 5 crore. The caller allegedly threatened him with serious consequences if the demanded money was not paid. Samra said the matter had already been reported to Kartarpur police. The firing at the hospital’s main gate created fear among admitted patients and their attendants. The incident has left residents of Kartarpur and surrounding areas shocked and concerned over security. DSP Sub-Division Kartarpur Narendra Singh Aujla said the police are treating both the extortion call and the firing incident seriously. He informed that CCTV footage from the hospital and nearby areas is being examined to identify the accused.
