Congress High Command Appoints Chandigarh Veteran Bhupinder Badheri to Key Committee
The All India Congress Committee (AICC) has appointed veteran Chandigarh Congress leader Bhupinder Singh Badheri as an additional member of its Political Affairs Committee. The decision by the Congress high command gives the long-time party worker a role in an important organisational body.
Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge approved the proposal to include new members in the committees. The announcement was made by party general secretary K C Venugopal.
Badheri has been associated with the Congress in Chandigarh for several decades and has held various positions in local government and the party organisation.
He was elected sarpanch of Badheri village in 1993 and later served as chairman of the Chandigarh Market Committee. In 2001, he became chairman of the Panchayat Samiti.
In 2009, Badheri was elected councillor from Ward No. 10 of the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation on a Congress ticket, defeating Shiromani Akali Dal candidate Malkiat Singh. In January 2010, he was elected Senior Deputy Mayor of the Municipal Corporation.
The Congress fielded him again from Ward No. 10 in the 2015 municipal elections. He has also served as an office-bearer of the Chandigarh Pradesh Congress Committee.
According to information released by the Congress, Badheri was previously a member of the Chandigarh Pradesh Congress Committee’s election committee. The committee, formed in January 2024, also included Pawan Kumar Bansal, Subhash Chawla and other local leaders.
