Two Held Within 24 Hours for Petrol Bomb Attack on BJP Office in Sangrur

Sangrur Police have arrested two young men within 24 hours for allegedly carrying out a petrol bomb attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) district office. Police said the motorcycle used in the incident and two mobile phones have been recovered from the accused. According to the police, both suspects were allegedly in contact with a person identified as Rana Bhau, who is stated to be based abroad. Investigators said he had allegedly promised the accused a large payment in return for carrying out the attack and sending him a video of the incident. However, police said only ₹2,200 was transferred to their account through two separate transactions. Attack Carried Out During Early Hours Addressing a press conference, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Dr. Ravjot Grewal said the incident took place at around 2:35 a.m. on July 26. According to the investigation, two individuals approached the BJP office on foot after crossing the road from the Upli village side. They allegedly set fire to the cloth wick attached to a bottle and threw it over the boundary wall onto the building before fleeing the scene. Police said the alleged objective of the attack was to damage the BJP office building and disturb public order. Investigation and Arrests The SSP said a large-scale investigation was launched immediately after the incident. Multiple police teams were formed under the supervision of SP Investigation Davinder Atri, including DSP Sangrur Dalbir Singh Sidhu, DSP Bhawanigarh Satnam Singh, DSP (D) Sangrur Sukhdev Singh, Inspector Sukhdeep Singh and Inspector Sandeep Singh. A team led by IPS officer Dr. Simrat Kaur from Counter Intelligence also assisted in the investigation. Using human intelligence and technical inputs, police identified and arrested the two accused within 24 hours. The arrested individuals have been identified as Happy Singh alias Happy Bassi, a resident of Bhammabadi village under Longowal Police Station, and Jaspreet Singh alias Jassi, a resident of Ward No. 12, Shaheed Udham Singh Basti, Lehra.
