Sanjeev Arora’s Plea Against ED Arrest: High Court Adjourns Hearing to August 17

The Punjab and Haryana High Court on Friday heard a petition filed by former Punjab minister Sanjeev Arora challenging his arrest by the Enforcement Directorate (ED). Arora has approached the court seeking to have his arrest declared illegal. He has alleged that the arrest was carried out in violation of the prescribed legal procedure and constitutional safeguards. According to the latest information, the hearing on Arora’s petition alleging illegal action by the ED was adjourned again on Friday. The Punjab and Haryana High Court will now hear the matter next on August 17. The ED had arrested Sanjeev Arora on May 9. During the proceedings, the court is expected to consider issues related to the legality of his arrest. Arora has sought a declaration from the court that his arrest was unlawful. During the previous hearing, the investigating agency had filed a chargesheet before the court. In the chargesheet, the ED described Arora as the alleged mastermind of a case involving purported fraudulent mobile phone exports and money laundering. The ED has claimed that financial irregularities amounting to ₹103 crore took place in the case. The legal proceedings concerning Arora’s challenge to his arrest will continue when the matter comes up for hearing on August 17.
