Mumbai Indians Defeat Punjab Kings by 6 Wickets in Thrilling IPL 2026 Clash

Mumbai Indians registered a thrilling six-wicket victory over Punjab Kings in an IPL 2026 encounter played at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamshala. Chasing a target of 201 runs, Mumbai achieved the target with one ball remaining after requiring 15 runs in the final over. Tilak Varma emerged as the star performer for Mumbai Indians with an unbeaten 75 runs off 33 balls. The victory handed Punjab Kings their fifth consecutive defeat in the tournament. Batting first on Thursday, Punjab Kings posted 200 runs for the loss of eight wickets in their allotted 20 overs. In reply, Mumbai Indians successfully chased down the target in 19.5 overs while losing four wickets. Apart from Tilak Varma’s match-winning innings, Ryan Rickelton contributed 48 runs, while Will Jacks played a quick unbeaten knock of 25 runs off just 10 balls. Tilak and Jacks also shared an unbroken 56-run partnership for the fifth wicket, which proved crucial in the chase. For Punjab Kings, Azmatullah Omarzai picked up two wickets. Yuzvendra Chahal and Marco Jansen claimed one wicket each. Earlier, Punjab Kings received a strong start from Prabhsimran Singh, who scored the highest 57 runs for his side. Azmatullah Omarzai also played an explosive innings of 38 runs off 17 balls. Towards the end of the innings, Xavier Bartlett added an unbeaten 18 runs from just seven deliveries to help Punjab reach the 200-run mark. Prabhsimran Singh and Priyansh added 50 runs for the opening wicket. Later, Prabhsimran and Connolly stitched together a 57-run partnership for the second wicket. However, Punjab lost wickets regularly during the middle overs, which slowed down their momentum despite the late acceleration from Omarzai and Bartlett. For Mumbai Indians, Shardul Thakur was the most successful bowler with four wickets, while Deepak Chahar took two wickets. Punjab Kings had started aggressively, but continuous dismissals in the middle phase of the innings put the team under pressure. Despite that, the late attacking knocks helped Punjab post a competitive total.
