Former Pakistan cricket captain Sarfaraz Ahmed has announced his retirement from international cricket, bringing an end to a career that spanned nearly two decades. During his international career, he scored a total of 6,164 runs and played a key role in several major achievements for the national side. One of the most significant moments of his captaincy came in 2017, when Pakistan won the ICC Champions Trophy 2017. In the final, Pakistan defeated the India national cricket team by 180 runs to secure an ICC title after a gap of eight years. Born in Karachi, Sarfaraz made his international debut in November 2007 in a One Day International match against India in Jaipur. Over the course of his career, the wicketkeeper-batsman represented the Pakistan national cricket team in 54 Test matches, 117 One Day Internationals and 61 Twenty20 Internationals. Across all three formats combined, Sarfaraz accumulated 6,164 runs, including six centuries and 35 half-centuries. His performances behind the stumps and with the bat made him an important member of the team for many years. Sarfaraz also captained Pakistan in 100 international matches, including 50 ODIs, 37 T20 Internationals and 13 Tests. Under his leadership, Pakistan reached the number-one position in the T20 International rankings. During this period, the team also set a world record by winning 11 consecutive T20 series.
