The death of Rasik Dulari Sharan alias Deepak Lodhi (25), a disciple of spiritual leader Premanand Maharaj in Vrindavan, has become the subject of a wider investigation after his post-mortem report revealed multiple serious injuries.
Police initially suspected that the case was linked to suicide. However, following a complaint from Deepak’s family, investigators have expanded the scope of the probe. Officials are examining CCTV footage, forensic evidence and statements from people who were associated with the deceased to establish the sequence of events.
Electric grinder found in room
According to Vrindavan Circle Officer Sanjeev Kumar, an electric grinder, also described as a cutting machine, was found in the room where Deepak lived during the investigation.
Police have also found evidence of an injury involving the deceased’s private part. Investigators are now examining whether this injury occurred before Deepak fell from the roof or was caused during the incident due to another reason.
Police have not reached any final conclusion on this aspect so far. Officials said the circumstances will become clearer after the forensic report and other evidence are analysed.
Post-mortem report mentions serious injuries
The post-mortem conducted in Mathura has cited shock caused by excessive blood loss as the primary cause of death.
The report mentions a wound on the head that required 14 stitches, along with deep cuts on the lower lip and chin. It also records a fracture of the ankle bone.
The report further mentions a fracture at the back of the skull and the presence of a blood clot. In addition, the fifth to eighth ribs on the left side were fractured, while the left lung was found damaged.
CCTV footage and statements under scrutiny
Police said their preliminary examination of CCTV footage indicates that Deepak jumped from the roof. However, in view of the questions raised by his family, investigators are examining the incident from all possible angles.
People associated with the ashram and Deepak’s companions are being questioned, while statements from family members are also being recorded.
Officials have maintained that the exact circumstances and cause behind the injuries will be established only after the forensic evidence is analysed and the investigation is completed.
