02 Mar, 2026 04:41 PM

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann congratulated the people of the state on the successful completion of one year of the “War on Drugs” campaign, calling it a decisive and unprecedented effort to free Punjab from the menace of narcotics. Launched by the Punjab government, this initiative has transformed the fight against drugs in the state by dismantling the supply networks and taking strict action against those involved. In a statement, CM Mann said, “The War on Drugs campaign is the largest operation against drug networks in Punjab’s history. Previous governments had allowed the drug trade to flourish, destroying generations. Our government has broken the backbone of this trade by cutting supply chains and imprisoning key operators involved in these heinous crimes.” Highlighting the strategy and public support behind the campaign, the Chief Minister added, “Over the past year, from March 2025 to February 2026, the zero-tolerance policy against drugs has been implemented effectively, transforming this campaign into a mass movement with active citizen participation.” Providing details of the campaign’s achievements, CM Mann said, “A total of 36,178 FIRs have been registered against drug offenders, 51,648 traffickers arrested, 2,277 kg of heroin seized, and over 4.9 million narcotic pills and capsules confiscated. Additionally, ₹16.7 crore in drug money has been recovered, along with properties worth crores of rupees linked to traffickers. Under the NDPS Act, conviction rates have consistently improved, reaching nearly 88% in 2025, reflecting strong case preparation and forensic support.” CM Mann contrasted the current government’s firm stance with previous administrations, stating, “Unlike past leaders, the Punjab government no longer remains silent while traffickers flourish at the cost of lives and families destroyed by drugs. Exemplary action against traffickers has been ensured.” Reiterating the government’s commitment, the Chief Minister emphasized, “The fight against drugs is aimed at protecting Punjab’s younger generation and will continue relentlessly without any hindrance.
