Helicopter Loses Contact, Crashes in Dense Forests of Borneo
A tragic helicopter crash on Indonesia’s Borneo Island has claimed the lives of all eight people on board, officials confirmed on Friday. According to authorities, the helicopter was flying over a palm oil plantation when it crashed, resulting in the deaths of two crew members and six passengers. The aircraft belonged to PT Matthew Air Nusantara and was identified as an Airbus H130 model. It had taken off on Thursday from Melawi district in West Kalimantan province and was en route to another palm oil plantation located in Kubu Raya district. Officials reported that contact with the control room was lost just minutes after takeoff. Following the loss of communication, a search and rescue operation was immediately launched. The National Search and Rescue Agency, along with the transportation ministry, later confirmed that the wreckage was located in dense forests in Sekadau district. Rescue teams recovered the bodies of all eight victims from the crash site. Among those killed was one Malaysian national. Authorities have initiated an investigation to determine the cause of the accident.
