Punjab Vigilance Bureau Catches ASI Red-Handed Taking ₹15,000 Bribe

The Punjab Vigilance Bureau, as part of its ongoing campaign against corruption in the state, has arrested an Assistant Sub-Inspector, Lakhwinder Singh, for allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹15,000. The accused was posted as in-charge at Police Post Kitchlu Nagar under Police Station PAU in Ludhiana. According to an official spokesperson of the Vigilance Bureau, the arrest was made based on a complaint filed by a resident of Bank Colony, Noorwala Road in Ludhiana district. The complainant had been booked in a case, the investigation of which was assigned to ASI Lakhwinder Singh. The complainant alleged that the accused demanded a bribe of ₹30,000 in exchange for not implicating his sister and mother in the case. The complainant also recorded the entire conversation regarding the bribe demand. Refusing to pay the illegal gratification, the complainant approached the Vigilance Bureau, Ludhiana Range. Following a preliminary inquiry into the complaint, the Vigilance team laid a trap. The accused ASI was caught red-handed while accepting ₹15,000 from the complainant in the presence of two official witnesses. In this regard, a case has been registered against the accused at the Vigilance Bureau Police Station, Ludhiana, under the Prevention of Corruption Act. Further investigation into the matter is currently underway.
