The Punjab Vigilance Bureau has arrested Kot Ise Khan police station SHO Inspector Sunita Bawa and her gunman, Home Guard jawan Guravtar Singh, for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 50,000.
The arrests were made during a trap operation late Saturday night on Zira Road, in the presence of witnesses, following a complaint by Rajwinder Singh of Noorpur Hakima village.
According to the information provided, Kot Ise Khan police had arrested a person from Khosa Randhir a few days earlier with narcotics. Following the arrest, Inspector Sunita Bawa allegedly threatened Rajwinder Singh with implicating him in a drug trafficking case and demanded money from him.
Sources cited in the report said the SHO had already received Rs 50,000 and was allegedly demanding another Rs 50,000.
Acting on Rajwinder Singh’s complaint, a Vigilance Bureau team was constituted under the leadership of Inspector Gagandeep Kaur of the Ferozepur Range. The team laid a trap and allegedly caught the SHO and her gunman while accepting Rs 50,000 on Zira Road at around 9 pm on Saturday.
The report also stated that Sunita Bawa was already on the Vigilance Bureau’s radar.
Inspector's remarks after arrest go viral
A video recorded after the arrest of the woman inspector has gained widespread attention on social media. In the video, when journalists questioned her following the arrest, she was heard saying, “All is well, all is well.”
When asked about the bribery case, she reportedly responded, “Look, the new jail module has started, let's see what happens.”
When journalists further questioned her about maintaining a smile despite the situation, she replied, “Absolutely, one should remain bold. Losses and gains keep happening, no issue. Hope for the best.”
The remarks have generated varied reactions on social media. Some users have questioned the inspector's response and conduct following her arrest, while others have directed criticism at the broader system.
Vigilance begins further action
The Vigilance Bureau has taken both accused persons into custody and initiated further proceedings in the case.
