Ontario Police Nab Two International Students in Auto Theft Operation
Halton Police in Ontario have arrested two Indian-origin students who were allegedly attempting to steal a vehicle. Police said they recovered equipment commonly used in vehicle theft operations, including a device capable of altering a vehicle’s software and generating keys on the spot. The arrests were made as part of Project Disconnect, a special initiative launched earlier this year by Halton Police to combat vehicle theft. According to police, the project has already resulted in the recovery of 28 stolen vehicles. Police officials stated that they received information about two individuals allegedly attempting to steal a high-end vehicle parked at a hotel parking lot. Officers responded to the scene, where the suspects reportedly tried to flee. However, both individuals were apprehended by police. The arrested suspects have been identified as Jobanpreet Singh (21) and Atish Singh (26). Authorities said the two had arrived at the location in a stolen vehicle before allegedly attempting to commit the theft. Police further revealed that both individuals were residing in Canada on expired student visas. Due to their immigration status, the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) had previously obtained warrants against them. According to officials, both suspects are facing five criminal charges related to theft. They are expected to be produced before a court in the near future. Authorities also indicated that, because of the existing CBSA warrants, a request will be made to obtain deportation orders against the accused through the court process. The investigation remains ongoing as police continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the case.
