Veteran actor Nana Patekar died on Thursday, October 8, 2026, at the age of 75 after suffering a severe cardiac arrest at his residence in Dona Paula, Goa. Hours before his death, Patekar had reportedly messaged a friend around 3.30 am, saying that he was not feeling well, according to doctors cited by news agency PTI.

Patekar was later found unconscious at his apartment near Panaji and was taken to a private hospital. Doctors suspected that he had suffered a heart attack.

Dr Shekhar Salkar, a senior doctor at the hospital, said Patekar was staying at the apartment with a caretaker. The actor’s friend saw the message at around 4 am and immediately rushed to the residence.

After the friend reached the apartment, the caretaker contacted the hospital. An ambulance was dispatched to the residence, which was about five minutes away from the medical facility. According to Dr Salkar, medical treatment began while Patekar was being transported to the hospital.

Doctors continued efforts to revive the actor after he was brought to the hospital. CPR was administered for approximately 45 minutes, but the medical team could not revive him. Patekar was declared dead at 5.10 am.

A medico-legal case has been registered following his death. His body was sent to Goa Medical College and Hospital in Bambolim for a postmortem examination. The examination is expected to help establish the exact cause of death, Dr Salkar said.

Nana Patekar was widely recognised for his powerful performances in both Hindi and Marathi cinema. His notable films include Parinda, Prahaar: The Final Act, Tirangaa, Krantiveer and Khamoshi: The Musical.

Over his career, Patekar received three National Film Awards and several other honours, including Filmfare Awards, the Maharashtra State Film Award and Filmfare Awards Marathi. He was also awarded the Padma Shri, India’s fourth-highest civilian honour.
