Israel Targets Basij Chief in Tehran Strike, Iran Yet to Confirm
Israel on Tuesday claimed that it has killed a senior Iranian commander associated with the volunteer Basij force of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), a group widely used by the Islamic Republic to suppress domestic protests. According to the Israeli military, Gholamreza Soleimani, who headed the Basij forces, was killed in an હુમਲੇ carried out on Monday. The strike reportedly targeted a residential building in Tehran, where emergency responders were seen working at the site following the incident, as per Reuters images. In an official statement, the Israeli military described the Basij as an integral part of Iran’s armed apparatus, aligned with what it termed the country’s “extremist regime.” It further alleged that under Soleimani’s leadership, the Basij forces played a central role in suppressing internal dissent, particularly during recent waves of intensified protests across Iran. The statement also accused the Basij forces of engaging in severe violence against civilian demonstrators, including widespread arrests and the use of force during crackdowns. Iran, however, has not yet confirmed the death of Gholamreza Soleimani. There has been no immediate response from Iranian authorities regarding Israel’s claim.
