A case of vandalism involving the protective enclosure of a statue of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar has come to light in Ludhiana. The incident occurred at a park located near Jalandhar Bypass Chowk, where the statue of the architect of the Indian Constitution is installed. According to the information available, the glass boundary erected around the statue for its protection was found damaged. A large stone was also recovered from the spot, raising suspicion that it may have been used to smash the protective glass. Soon after the incident came to light, leaders and workers of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) reached the site and raised slogans in protest. BSP General Secretary Sonu Ambedkar said the protective glass installed around the statue was thick enough that it could not have been broken with a single blow. He alleged that multiple stones must have been thrown to cause the damage. After receiving information about the incident, the police reached the location and immediately launched an investigation. According to the Station House Officer (SHO), footage from the Safe City surveillance cameras installed at and around the site is being examined in detail. Police officials said it would be possible to determine only after a thorough investigation whether the glass broke accidentally or if it was intentionally damaged by miscreants as part of a planned act of vandalism. At present, tension prevails in the area, and the police are working to maintain law and order while identifying and tracing those responsible for the incident.
