Delhi: Students, Police Clash Again Near Jantar Mantar; RAF Deployed

A fresh clash broke out between students and the police near Jantar Mantar in Delhi at around 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Although the day remained peaceful following the “Sansad Chalo” march held two days earlier, tensions escalated at night after a large crowd gathered, leading to a violent confrontation between protesters and the police. To bring the situation under control, the Rapid Action Force (RAF) was deployed and tear gas shells were fired to disperse the crowd. The situation was brought under control shortly afterward. According to the police, a group of protesters near Tolstoy Marg in Connaught Place allegedly attacked police personnel by throwing stones and bottles. During the incident, Connaught Place ACP Vivek Bhagat sustained injuries. In response, the police used tear gas shells to control the unrest. Several videos of the incident surfaced on social media, showing protesters carrying sticks and allegedly attacking police officers. The clash reportedly lasted for nearly 15 minutes before normalcy was restored. The Cockroach Janata Party has been staging a protest at Jantar Mantar since June 20. Earlier, on July 20, clashes were also reported during the CJP’s “Sansad March,” when protesters reached near the gates of Parliament. Police had resorted to a baton charge to disperse the crowd. Meanwhile, on Thursday morning, 16 Delhi Metro stations were closed until further notice as part of the security measures.
