Pandher Announces Indefinite Protest After Punjab Government Misses October 15 Deadline
The Kisan Mazdoor Morcha Punjab has announced that it will launch an indefinite protest in Chandigarh on December 9, saying the demands of farmers and workers remain unresolved.
Morcha convenor Sarwan Singh Pandher made the announcement while speaking to reporters at Kisan Bhawan on October 17. He said the Punjab government did not appear to be serious about addressing the union’s demands, leaving it with no option but to resume its agitation.
Government missed October 15 deadline, Pandher says
Pandher said the union had held a meeting with Punjab Agriculture Minister Gurmeet Singh Khudian, who had assured them that the farmers’ demands would be addressed by October 15.
However, Pandher said the deadline had passed without the government providing any update. The lack of progress, he added, had caused resentment among members of the Kisan Mazdoor Morcha.
Pandher accuses Punjab government of implementing Centre’s policies
Pandher also accused the Aam Aadmi Party-led Punjab government of promptly issuing notifications to implement policies introduced by the Centre that, he alleged, were against farmers and the public.
Referring to the three farm laws, he claimed that the AAP government in Delhi had been the first to implement them.
Morcha raises concern over drug problem
Leaders of the Kisan Mazdoor Morcha expressed concern over drug-related problems in Punjab and urged the state government to take appropriate measures to tackle the issue. They said serious efforts were needed to eliminate drugs from the state.
The Morcha also condemned the killing of Parminder Singh Jhota in Mansa and expressed condolences to his family.
Other prominent leaders of the Kisan Mazdoor Morcha were present at the press conference.
