Acclaimed actor Manoj Bajpayee has spoken about fulfilling a long-cherished wish of working in a film set against the backdrop of Delhi, a city that played a significant role in shaping his early life and career.

The actor will soon be seen in the upcoming crime thriller ‘Gazab Raat’, which also stars Divya Dutta, Saqib Saleem, Akshay Oberoi, Kiku Sharda, and Nushrratt Bharuccha in key roles.

Directed by Ritesh Shah and produced by Neeraj Pandey’s Friday Filmworks, the film revolves around a police officer whose night takes an unexpected turn after he witnesses a severely injured young woman being thrown from a moving car in Delhi.

Speaking about his connection with the national capital, Bajpayee said he had spent some of the most important years of his life in Delhi. He moved to the city at the age of 18 to pursue his college education and theatre aspirations. According to the actor, living in Delhi helped him gain a deep understanding of the city’s culture, language, and people.

Bajpayee noted that Delhi’s distinctive way of speaking reflects a blend of influences from western Uttar Pradesh, Punjabi culture, and Haryana. He added that these cultural characteristics are also evident in the way Delhi Police personnel communicate and carry out their work, making the setting particularly authentic for the film.

Discussing Divya Dutta’s role in Gazab Raat, Bajpayee revealed that the makers have intentionally kept key details of her character under wraps. He said audiences would be able to understand the character fully only after watching the film.

He described Dutta’s character as highly sharp and pivotal to the narrative, adding that she brings a major twist to the story. Bajpayee also said viewers will get to see the actress in a completely new avatar, unlike anything they have seen from her before.

Gazab Raat is scheduled to stream on Netflix from October.
