The seven-day sit-in organized by the Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) at the Chandigarh-Mohali border officially concluded on Monday, September 7, after the Punjab government issued written assurances agreeing to address key farmer demands. The decision to end the demonstration followed a high-level meeting on Sunday between delegation leaders from the farmer unions and Punjab Agriculture Minister Gurmeet Singh Khudian. During the talks, Minister Khudian assured the representatives that the state government would convene a special session of the Punjab Legislative Assembly within a month to take up state-specific agrarian issues and introduce resolutions regarding their core demands. He further committed to resolving grievances concerning state government policies. Agriculture Minister Khudian personally visited the protest venue on Monday to engage directly with the farmers and oversee the lifting of the blockade. Reaffirming the government’s commitments, he confirmed that the state Assembly would meet within 30 days to deliberate on farm-related concerns.Upon receiving formal written documentation of these commitments from the state administration on Monday morning, the farmer leadership announced the immediate conclusion of the agitation. Protesters subsequently began clearing the border site, bringing an end to the week-long demonstration.
