The Director General of Police (DGP), Punjab, has announced financial compensation of ₹1 crore for the family of Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Iqbal Singh, who was martyred in the line of duty. The 54-55-year-old officer, posted with the Counter-Intelligence Wing in Ferozepur, was brutally gunned down by unidentified motorcycle-borne assailants on the evening of October 11 in Naushehra Pannuan village, Tarn Taran district. According to police sources, ASI Iqbal Singh had visited the local gurdwara to pray and was returning home on his motorcycle. As he reached the Naushehra Pannuan-Lohka road, the armed attackers intercepted him and opened indiscriminate fire at point-blank range. Having sustained multiple gunshot wounds, the officer died on the spot. Notably, exactly one month prior—on September 11—his nephew, Ajmeet Singh, was similarly shot dead in the same village. In an official statement, the Punjab DGP confirmed that Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann announced ₹1 crore as ex-gratia compensation for the bereaved family, while an additional ₹1 crore insurance payout will be provided through HDFC Bank. The police department further assured that the slain officer will be laid to rest with full official police honors.Police records indicate that this incident marks the fifth attack targeting police personnel in the state's border districts in recent months. Investigative teams are actively reviewing local CCTV footage from nearby routes and examining potential links to foreign-based gangsters as part of their comprehensive probe.
