The ongoing series of protests conducted by the Punjab Congress Scheduled Caste (SC) Department at the Punjab Congress Bhawan was successfully called off on its eighth day following administrative action by the Uttarakhand Police. The demonstration was launched to protest an unconstitutional "purification" ritual allegedly conducted at the Ramlila Maidan in Haldwani following a public address by All India Congress Committee (AICC) President Mallikarjun Kharge, as well as a retaliatory FIR registered against Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi. Party leaders decided to end the sit-in protest after the Uttarakhand Police yielded to intense political pressure and registered an FIR at the Haldwani Kotwali police station. The case has been booked under Sections 196 and 299 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) along with Section 3(1)(r) of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. Addressing the gathering at the conclusion of the protest, National Coordinator Sudhir Chaudhary, Co-Incharge Mani Ram, and State Chairman Gurpreet Singh Lucky Pakho stated that the steadfast eight-day struggle demonstrated the party's unwavering commitment to constitutional values framed by Dr. B.R. Ambedkar and the dignity of marginalized communities. The leaders criticized the authorities in the BJP-ruled state, noting that it took a month-long sustained campaign to initiate legal action over the insult to a national leader from the Dalit community, whereas a case was registered immediately against Rahul Gandhi for standing up for Dalit rights.Congress leaders issued a clear warning that while the protest at Congress Bhawan has been suspended following the registration of the FIR, the party will closely monitor administrative progress. They declared that if the accused are not arrested swiftly and the politically motivated case against Rahul Gandhi is not withdrawn, the agitation will be expanded across every block and district in Punjab with workers taking to the streets. The event was attended by prominent party functionaries and workers, including National Coordinator Sudhir Chaudhary, Co-Incharge Mani Ram, State Chairman Gurpreet Singh Lucky Pakho, Working Chairman Yamini Gomar, Banny Khaira, Mohan Singh Phallianwala, Dr. Jeevanjot Kaur Bhatti, Nahar Singh Ferozepur, Ashwani Kumar Jalandhar, Darshan Singh Shutrana, Harvinder Singh Gurdaspur, Vice Chairman Principal Sulakhan Singh, Mohali District Chairman Ranjit Singh, Lakhwinder Singh (Fatehgarh Sahib), and Ajmer Singh (Rupanagar).
