DVMC reviews 20 cases registered under Atrocities Prevention Act

Ferozepur : A meeting of the District Vigilance and Monitoring Committee(DVMC) was held under the chairmanship of Assistant Commissioner Simranjeet Singh to review cases registered under the Atrocities Prevention Act 1989 in the district. Apart from MLA ZiraNaresh Kataria, several government and non-government members of the committee attended the meeting.

The Assistant Commissioner directed police department officials to ensure that investigations in pending cases registered under the Act are completed promptly as per the amended rules of 2016, and reports are submitted to the District Social Justice and Empowerment Officer to ensure timely justice for victims. He also instructed that, in coordination with the district attorney and after obtaining legal advice, compensation should be provided to the victims without delay.

During the meeting, District Social Justice and Empowerment Officer Gurmeet Singh Brar shared the current status of cases registered under the Atrocities Prevention Act 1989 and the 1995 rules.
