Cross-Border Drug Smuggling Module Busted; Massive Heroin Haul Recovered in Amritsar
In a major breakthrough in the ongoing campaign to make Punjab a drug-free state, the Amritsar Commissionerate Police have busted a cross-border drug smuggling module and arrested six individuals, including two minors, with 30.045 kilograms of heroin. The information was shared by Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab, Gaurav Yadav. He stated that the operation was carried out as part of the state government's intensified drive against narcotics trafficking. The arrested accused have been identified as Gautam (24), a resident of Fateh Singh Colony in Amritsar; Kabir alias Kaku (22), a resident of Chheharta, Amritsar; Sameer alias Sabharwal (18), a resident of Amritsar; and Gurpreet Singh alias Keera (18), a resident of Orchid Valley, Amritsar. Two minors are also among those apprehended. According to police records, Kabir alias Kaku has a criminal background and is already facing a case registered under the NDPS Act at Chheharta Police Station. Apart from recovering the heroin consignment, police teams also seized a motorcycle that was allegedly being used for drug trafficking activities. DGP Gaurav Yadav said that preliminary investigations have revealed that the arrested individuals were in contact with a Dubai-based trafficker who allegedly facilitated the smuggling of heroin from across the border. Acting on the trafficker’s instructions, the accused reportedly collected consignments from designated locations and supplied them to various areas across Punjab. He added that further investigations are underway to identify other individuals linked to the network, trace financial channels, and uncover any possible hawala connections associated with the operation. Sharing details of the operation, Amritsar Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said that acting on intelligence inputs, police teams first arrested Gautam along with two minors and recovered 30.045 kilograms of heroin from their possession. Based on Gautam’s disclosures during questioning, police subsequently arrested three more accused identified as Kabir alias Kaku, Sameer alias Sabharwal, and Gurpreet Singh alias Keera. The Police Commissioner further stated that investigations have identified the Dubai-based trafficker as the mastermind behind the module. The suspect is already wanted by police in three major NDPS cases, including a 42-kilogram heroin recovery case and a 10-kilogram ICE recovery case. According to the investigation, the accused allegedly operated from Dubai and lured young individuals, including minors, with financial incentives. These recruits were then allegedly used to receive narcotics consignments and distribute them further within the state. In connection with the case, FIR No. 122 dated June 3, 2026, has been registered at Chheharta Police Station, Amritsar, under Sections 21-C, 25, and 29 of the NDPS Act. Further investigation is in progress.
