The Delhi Police have arrested Hariram Bansal, the owner of the five-storey building that collapsed in East Delhi's Satya Niketan area on Sunday, September 6. Authorities apprehended Bansal from Bhiwadi in Rajasthan and transported him back to the capital, where he is currently undergoing questioning regarding the tragedy. The death toll from the incident has risen to seven after rescue personnel recovered another body from the rubble on Monday morning. A total of 12 individuals have been successfully rescued from the debris, with five remaining in critical condition. Rescue operations remain active at the site, with search teams utilizing sniffer dogs and specialized cameras due to concerns that additional victims may still be trapped beneath the wreckage. The deceased have been identified as Abhishek, Yuvraj Soni, Pawan, Arpit Jahaj, Akshat Singh Yadav, and Surender Singh, along with one victim whose identity has not yet been confirmed.The tragic structure collapse occurred at approximately 1:30 PM on Sunday in the Satya Niketan area near Delhi University's South Campus. The 40-year-old, five-storey building was functioning as a student hostel. Official records from the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) indicate that the structure had not been designated as hazardous prior to the incident. According to local residents, alteration and demolition work had been underway in the basement of the building for the past seven days. The basement was reportedly already structurally weakened and inundated with water. During excavation activities, a structural pillar shifted, triggering the sudden and complete collapse of the multi-storey structure and trapping workers operating inside.
