In a significant step to promote oilseed cultivation, the Punjab government has launched the “Oil Seed Kisan Mitra” QR scanner, a digital initiative aimed at providing farmers with easy access to essential agricultural information and solutions. Chief Agriculture Officer Dr. Sukhjinder Singh Bajwa stated that the initiative has been introduced to encourage the cultivation of oilseed crops and to equip farmers with scientific knowledge and modern farming practices. Through this QR scanner, farmers will be able to access online information and resolve their queries efficiently. He explained that farmers can use the QR code to obtain detailed guidance on the scientific cultivation of crops such as Mustard, Sunflower, Groundnut, and Sesame. The platform will also provide insights into improved crop varieties, fertilizer usage, pest and disease management, irrigation techniques, and expert advice. Additionally, farmers will receive information regarding better pricing and marketing opportunities for their produce. The officer further added that farmers can also learn about the benefits and schemes available under the National Mission on Oilseeds and the Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana through this digital platform. The Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare is actively organizing village-level camps to raise awareness about the use of this QR scanner. Farmers have been urged to take full advantage of this facility and to contact the concerned offices or Krishi Vigyan Kendras for any assistance or queries.
