Senior Police Officer Among Two Killed in Militant Attack in Northwestern Pakistan
Two policemen, including a senior officer, were killed after terrorists opened fire on a police team in Pakistan’s northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province on Thursday, police said.
The attack took place in Karak district, an area that has witnessed repeated incidents of violence. No individual or organisation has so far claimed responsibility for the attack.
According to police, armed attackers opened fire on personnel from Banda Daud Shah police station in the New Karpa area. Station House Officer (SHO) Daud Khan and a constable were killed at the scene.
The attackers fled the area following the shooting. After receiving information about the incident, additional police teams reached the location and launched a search operation to trace those responsible.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has remained affected by violence for several years. The region has also faced concerns over the cross-border movement of militants from Afghanistan, along with repeated military operations.
Pakistan’s federal government has alleged that the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) is behind attacks in provinces bordering Afghanistan. According to the government, a ceasefire agreement with the TTP ended in November 2022.
The latest attack comes amid continued security concerns in the region, where police and security forces have frequently been targeted by armed groups.
