Jalandhar Tragedy: Bodies of Two Combine Workers Recovered from Canal, Police Probe Underway
A tragic incident has been reported from Jande Sarai village under Kartarpur police station in rural Jalandhar, where two young men, who had travelled from Punjab's Malwa region for seasonal maize harvesting, allegedly died due to a suspected drug overdose. The deceased have been identified as Jaspreet Singh, son of Nirmal Singh, a resident of Khosa Lal Singh in Ferozepur district, and Gagandeep Singh, son of Jaspal Singh, a resident of Lubhaya Wali in Sri Muktsar Sahib district. According to available information, both men had arrived in the Doaba region as members of a combine harvesting team engaged in the seasonal maize crop. They were working in the fields of farmer Hardayal Singh in Bullowal village. The owner of the combine machine said the two workers had been missing for the past two days, and all attempts to contact them over the phone had failed. During the intervening night of Sunday and Monday, the bodies of both men were recovered from a nearby canal at Jande Sarai village. Bodies Found in Disturbing Condition People present at the scene said the condition of the bodies was extremely distressing. It is suspected that after collapsing near the canal in an intoxicated state, or after their deaths, stray dogs severely mauled the bodies, leaving those at the scene shocked. Police Investigation Underway DSP Kartarpur Sub-Division Narendra Singh Aujla said that police reached the spot immediately after receiving information, took both bodies into custody, and sent them to the Civil Hospital for postmortem examination. He stated that while the preliminary assessment suggests a suspected drug overdose, the exact cause of death will only be confirmed after the detailed postmortem report is received. Police have informed the families of the deceased and initiated further legal proceedings.
