Akali Dal Waris Punjab Names Papalpreet Singh as Candidate from Majitha
Akali Dal ‘Waris Punjab De’ has announced Papalpreet Singh, a close associate of Khadoor Sahib MP Amritpal Singh, as its candidate from the Majitha Assembly constituency for the upcoming Punjab Assembly elections. The announcement was made on Friday by Tarsem Singh, the party’s working president and father of Amritpal Singh, during a programme held in the Majitha constituency. Tarsem Singh said Papalpreet Singh would contest the upcoming Assembly elections from Majitha as the party’s candidate. Papalpreet Singh remained detained along with Amritpal Singh at Dibrugarh Jail in Assam under the National Security Act (NSA) until April 10, 2025. After his detention under the NSA ended, he was transferred to Punjab. Papalpreet was arrested in April 2023 from the Kathunangal area of Amritsar during an operation against the ‘Waris Punjab De’ organisation. He was considered one of Amritpal Singh’s key advisers. Papalpreet Singh is known for his involvement in Sikh activism. He has supported the Khalistan movement and has also worked as an independent journalist. In 2015, he was arrested on sedition charges following a speech at the Sarbat Khalsa. A resident of Marari village in Majitha, Papalpreet Singh has also remained associated with several social and religious activities in the area.
