Namdhari Sect Leader Thakur Dilip Singh Faces Legal Trouble, CBI Court Issues Notice

30 Mar, 2026 08:37 AM

Legal troubles have intensified for Thakur Dilip Singh of the Namdhari sect, who is now entangled in a succession dispute following the death of Satguru Jagjit Singh. A special CBI court in Mohali has issued a public notice to declare Thakur Dilip Singh a proclaimed offender (PO). During the hearing of Case No. 3 (S)/2017, the court took a strict stance, noting that the accused has neither appeared before the court nor disclosed his current whereabouts. The order comes after nine years of investigation and repeated non-appearance by the accused. The court has formally published a public notice directing Thakur Dilip Singh to appear before it by April 8. It has made it clear that failure to comply with the deadline will result in him being declared a proclaimed offender. Thakur Dilip Singh is facing multiple criminal cases registered at three different police stations. These include the murder of Mata Chand Kaur, a conspiracy to attack Satguru Uday Singh and Jagtar Singh (son-in-law of Mata Chand Kaur), and his alleged involvement in the murder of Avtar Singh. In 2017, all three cases were transferred to the Central Bureau of Investigation. The agency consolidated them into a single case in Chandigarh and initiated an investigation. However, Thakur Dilip Singh has failed to appear before the court throughout the proceedings, prompting the issuance of the PO notice. If he is officially declared a proclaimed offender, the CBI and police may initiate proceedings to attach his properties. Additionally, efforts to trace him could be intensified through an international Red Corner Notice.
